Carry-out order on Sunday at location in Greenville, SC.

I ordered 3 carry-out meals and was given the total. My husband was out, so he said he would pick it up.

When he did, he signed the receipt and gave the lady a small tip. He did not know what the order total was and didn't pay any attention to the total to see that someone took it upon themselves to add a tip to the bill. They also failed to mention it when he gave them a tip. I called and asked why a tip was added and how they determined the amount they would add.

I was told that my husband signed it like it was.

I am not satisfied. Is this a new policy that they add whatever tip they want to your bill before you even get there?

Resolved: Banned wrongfully

Updated by user Dec 05, 2025

Company fixed the issue and I have been provided with apology. They apologized, lifted the ban and gave us a gift card, which we did not ask for.

We are very happy.

We got together with the management and came to an agreement. Because of the holiday it took a couple of weeks to get together was everyone was nice.

Original review Nov 20, 2025
Today ( November 19th, 2025) I went to meet my sister for lunch at one of our favorite places in Cookeville to eat, Cheddar's, only to be told we were both banned for life for being racists. When I got there my sister was crying and they would not tell her why we were banned.

I went in alone and talked to the assistant manger. She told me a woman was offended by something I had said last week (I believe on the 3rd of Nov.) Said I had made racist slurs and made her scared. Let me make it perfectly clear I, nor my sister are NOT racist, we were not raised that way. We were banned without them hearing our side of this drama.

Gee, I thought we lived in America where you are innocent until proven guilty. They prejudged us without a trial. My sister and I are long time patrons of Cheddar's, some of our friends are too. I told the manager, You know us, you know we are not racist.

She responded with, I know, but it is company policy... To ban people for life for something you know is not true? I say back to her. I remember talking with this trainee.

I thought she was sweet. She never indicated that anything I said bothered her. She should have told me. I don't agree, but I still would have apologized.

I treated her no different than any other person I ever talked to. Keep in mind my sister never even talked to this girl, she was involved chatting with someone else) so why was she banned? My sister is also deaf in one ear and can hardly hear out the other, so I highly doubt she even heard our conversation. I was told that she accused both of us.

I am 72 and my sister is 68. I don't know the purpose behind this, to get two old white women banned? I hope not, I am old enough to remember the riots of the 60's, I thought we had progressed away from those times. I realize people get offended very easily these days.

This girl wants to work in a customer service position? She better get a tougher skin if she was offended by anything I said. This girl isn't from here, will not work here, we will never see each other again, so why get us banned as a parting shot and why is Cheddar's a partner in this? I like the people at Cheddar's that is why we always go there.

We like to sit at the bar (Neither of us drink) and chat. The people in the bar know us well. But this is wrong. I am offended.

My sister is horrified. We are being banned from coming in, sitting a spell and talking to old friends because of what one person said we did. Is this what we have come to? One person has the power to ruin part of another person's life, to take away something important to them?

We are being accused of something we thought we would never be accused of. I feel Cheddar's has not done right by us. She was an employee, we were customers. How is she going to react when someone really does insult her?

It will probably happen sooner than later if she plans on being a bartender or manager. I used to waitress, I have dealt plenty with rude, food throwing, insulting people when I was no older than that girl is now. I didn't dwell on it, I went on to the next customer. I represented the company I worked for as an adult.

Oh yes, I forgot. What ever happened to free speech?

What do I want from this? An apology from Cheddar's and the ban dropped.

Your post has an obvious “tell” that shows while you probably are not what is being asserted, you definitely have been indoctrinated and feel emboldened in your opinions and how you word them.

Maureen L Hid
reply icon Replying to comment of Guest-2791762

You mean being honest? A person can be accidentally insulted.

I didn't mean to insult her, I treated her as an equal as I treat everyone.

If you are going to accidentally insult someone it will be a stranger whom you do not know their history. and they don't know yours.

Maureen L Hid

We talked about her hair, life in general. Unfortunately it was two weeks ago I don't remember everything we talked about.

She should have said something to me and we could have discussed it.

I would have apologized if she had communicated that to me, but she didn't indicate to me there was a problem. I know what a racial slur is, I didn't say any, she must have misunderstood something I said.

Bhargav Poo

The issue is that you are white, you are accused of "racial profiling" just for existing and breathing wrong. But at the same time, if you said something offensive to her, they have EVERY RIGHT to ban you.

Being a customer does not give you the right to say offensive things. Just like you have the right for free speech, they have the right to ban you and refuse service.

Guest

Your post is meaningless without details/topics of any conversation with this trainee.

Bhargav Poo

I never said anything negative, as a matter of fact I said something positive, I said that it is nice that she is working. Mostly, her people just try to live off the government, and it is nice to see her type of people working rather than living off the government. She took that as racial.

Cheddars requires patron to pay by kiosk machine. Manager 'disappeared' from premise.

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full
Updated by user Jan 01, 2026

Cheddars has clearly demonstrated a complete lack of interest in contacting a patron who had concerns regarding: 1) manager failing to get with patron, and 2) failure to inform patron of mandatory kiosk use prior to ordering food.Since Cheddars does not care, why should any patron care about Cheddars.

Original review Dec 17, 2025
After finishing a lunch meal, the patron was informed by the server that the patron was required to pay by kiosk machine only. When a manager was requested, the server indicated the manager was in the office.

Subsequently, the server returned and claimed the manager had just left. (Translation - The manager did not want to come out. Sniff check: It makes no sense that the manager would leave a restaurant during the lunch serving time.) The patron refused to pay by kiosk machine but did pay in cash. The patron requested the manager to contact them.

After six days, the manager has yet to contact the patron. The problem Cheddars created for themselves is that there is no displayed sign that indicates Cheddars requires patrons to pay by kiosk machine (nor does the host or server inform upon arrival at Cheddars/ordering a meal).

Preferred solution: Server run credit card (traditionally done) and have Cheddars not require patron to use kiosk machine.

User's recommendation: Do not go to Cheddars if you do not want to use a kiosk machine.

How to say I'm a tired old fool without saying it. Here's the thing, kiosks are the future, "Traditional" methods like cash are a thing of the past.

These changes are made with younger people in mind who don't care about a kiosk payment.

These companies do NOT care about you old people who are on the way out. You either keep up with the tech or stay home, out of the way of people who just want to finish their workday.

Guest
reply icon Replying to comment of Guest-2799188

Guest-279**** expressed an opinion that old people should work with newer technology or not go into Cheddars. Just because kiosk machines are claimed to be the future does not make it necessarily better (just newer).

Traditional payments (because they are older) are not automatically inferior to newer payment method(s). Guest-279**** chose not to address that Cheddars did not have a manager get back with the concerned patron at the time of incident or back at all. Guest-279**** needs to be reminded that if were not for old people, young people would not be here. Guest-279**** purports that kiosk machine are okay with (implied all) young people.

Unfortunately for Guest-279****, Cheddars is a family restaurant for all people (not just young folks and/or tech nerds).

Guest-279**** avoided the point that if Cheddars mandates use of a kiosk machine that it is upon Cheddars to let patrons know upon arrive by well-placed signage and/or information provided by host/server prior to sitting/ordering a meal. This gives all patrons a chance to decide to stay or go; as well as, gives patrons an informed information as to where to spend their money.

Guest
reply icon Replying to comment of Guest-2799253

YOU are missing the point. They don’t have to “warn” about the kiosks because those that would leave because of them bring a whole lot of entitled behavior in with them.

The entitled customer Cheddar’s does not want. OP is part of the problem and as suggested should stay home out of everyone’s way.

Guest
reply icon Replying to comment of Guest-2799253

Guest-279**** made a response (18 Dec 2025) stating that person's social diatribe/bias's opinion of kiosk machines and who uses/ not uses them. Guest-279**** has demonstrated themselves to be a person that advocates kiosk machines usage.

Guest-279**** choses to ignore (or simply fails to understand) the problem that Cheddars created when a manager fails to contact a patron (who priorly shared a concern), as well as, Cheddars failing to inform any patron of 'mandated' kiosk machine use.

Following Guest-279**** opinion, Guest-279**** would be okay with: 1) a manager not contacting a patron when a patron perceives a problem and wishes to talk with a manager, and 2) using undisclosed nontraditional 'mandated' payment. The issues are with a manager's failure to contact a patron, and with undisclosed 'mandated' payment method.

Guest
reply icon Replying to comment of Guest-2799253

Regardless to what you think (I suspect that you're the original poster), the kiosks, QR code menus and everything else that's new is NOT going to stop because someone with only a few years lefts wants it that way. These places do NOT care if they're losing people they've squeezed for years.

They're getting ready for the next wave that has 40 years of spending left.

This coot and others like them who take up tables hours on end should stay home. They had a good run but it's over for them.

Guest
reply icon Replying to comment of Guest-2799796

Guest-279****'s opinion concerning kiosk / bias against old people and a complete lack of any facts (for anyone to consider) is not relevant to the original complaints' concerns. Guest-279**** demonstrates an individual who has decided that old folks (and by corollary, everybody else who does not that person's bias) should not attend Cheddars.

Cheddars is a family restaurant and is not a young folks and/or tech nerd place only (which Guest-279**** purports and states). Guest-279**** complete avoidance (by choice and/or lack of understanding) of the main points of the original complaint renders that person to having an opinion only with nothing germane to core subject. The original complaints (avoided by Guest-279****) are: 1) manager not getting with patron regarding a perceived problem, 2) the non-disclosure of 'mandated' kiosk machine usage, and 3) the customary and normally obligated accompanying indemnification information concerning kiosk machine usage to consumers.

Guest-279**** has provided air/opinion/bias but no substance. Colloquially in Texas the saying goes "All hat, no cows".

Guest
reply icon Replying to comment of Guest-2799188

"Preferred solution: Server run credit card (traditionally done)" Would indicate to me that 'patron' has a credit card. I'm not sure technology has left behind the concept of "swipe" and press button.

If you can't swipe and press a button you're past old and you're past writing a review like this.

Letting age be an excuse is the past. Where is the dignity in "too old to try anything"

Guest
reply icon Replying to comment of Guest-2799271

Guest-279**** makes personal non-applicable comments concerning traditionally swiping a credit card to pay for a meal and baselessly assumes the age of the patron. Originally, the complainant illuminated perceived errors in mandating kiosk machine payment use and notification of same -plus- the manager failure to get with patron.

Cheddars has no written indemnification policy for kiosk machine use or picture capabilities of the kiosk machine. There is none in the restaurant nor at their website. Guest-279**** makes no mention of the failure/absence of Cheddars manager to get with patron concerning a purported mandate to use a kiosk machine. Guest-179**** makes no mention (if Cheddars mandates kiosk machine use) that Cheddars is responsible to inform the patron prior to ordering a meal; as well as, advertise same on their website.

Blindly using a kiosk machine (with potential unknowns) is initially questionable by cautious people. Guest-179**** is commenting on using a kiosk machine but choses to ignore manager's failure to get with patron concerning kiosk use, notification of mandated kiosk machine use prior to meal ordering and indemnification issues.

reply icon Replying to comment of Guest-2799271

What an idiot you are

Guest
reply icon Replying to comment of Guest-2803064

Guest-280**** general and baseless social comment to the original complainants' specific concerns clearly reflects (without doubt) who the real idiot is. Guest-280**** general and baseless social comment proves even a monkey (if it types long enough on a keyboard) can make a short sentence.

Guest-280**** completely avoided (but more likely, simply does not understand) how poor it is when: 1) a restaurant manager never responded to a patron's concern, and 2) it is incumbent on the restaurant to inform any patron of mandatory kiosk use prior to ordering. It is the patron who decides whether to use (or not) a kiosk, not the restaurant.

Original review Jan 22, 2026
My birthday was Jan 8. 74 years old.

My 94 mothers and sister went to eat lunch to celebrate. It was a horrible experience. After ordering what they had. My sister did not get corn they were out.

And my mother didnt get her salad out of dressing. So no mash potatoes-no Philly cheese sandwich- no veggies-no salad dressing Why sit people bring their drinks and bread than tell them they are out. I checked with other Cheeders in San Antonio and they were full stoked. What is happening?

Was told delay in truck supply. Again why open and dont you think ppl should be told ahead of time.

Omg very disappointing especially taking my 94 mothers out in drizzle cold weather. Waitress was very kind but seemed embarrassed

Poor food and poor manager

I was there today at 12:30. Food was cold!

The waitress heated my food in the microwave! Refills took 25 minutes, sauce was missing and did not get replaced! I called the manager and she hung up on me! If that's what you have as a manager, you have poor leadership!

The food was grease-soaked!

The broccoli cheddar casserole was cold from the beginning! The manager needs to realize that it's her job to take care of problems!

Insensitive Customer Service

My wife and I were joined by our best friend for dinner on a Sunday night. We are all part of the LGBTQ+ community.

The food was okay, but the service was horrible. Our waitress was not attentive to our needs, and then the overall experience tanked.

My wife had just gotten up to use the restroom, and then I saw four or so employees standing in clear sight, laughing and pointing at us. Your management needs to provide better training for your employees and to learn not to laugh and point at customers.

if you eat the food, you are NOT entitled to a full refund. For all we know, you could have made this all up to get a free meal.

This is a business, not a charity. You eat the food YOU PAY FOR IT.

IF you cannot afford to stay at home or visit a soup kitchen. You should be ASHAMED of yourself, begging for a refund.

Call her out on it!!! Don't let her get away with it. The booth you were placed at was uncomfortable?

Just because you go to an interview does not guarantee you the job. If your spoken English is as poor as your written English, they did not hire you because they need someone who can speak English to do the job.

Stop using the "race card"! It has nothing to do with that.

Alot of businesses say they are hiring when really, they are not because they want to show the fakeness of how "people don't want to work" BS.
